This was a drape-based project and inspired by the geometric patterns of Erté, during the 1920s in particular and the concept of suspension. An important source of inspiration was the book 'Erté Fashion Paper Dolls of the Twenties' as this included certain designs that I developed and manipulated and  was the original source for the concept of suspension. As the project progressed and I experimented with pattern cutting, it was clear that I would join two geometric shapes together using the technique of faggotting. I wanted to also use contrasting stiff and soft drape in the form of modern materials along with geometric shapes to create a modern twist on the work of Erté.
